STARTER MOTORS
A regular 12
volt VW starter will crank most smaller engines and even some V6's provided the
engine has not been freshly overhauled. Use a big battery and large cables, including
the ground strap from the battery directly to the engine. Our starter test will
help you decide which one you will need to crank your engine. More starters are
compared in our catalog.
DESCRIPTION OF STARTER
P.N. 113-911-021 Standard 6v tested on 12 volts. spins small engine faster. Use
12v solenoid. Good on Mazda adaption with 109 tooth 6 volt flywheel.
KEP SR92 X VW diesel starter straight from Bosch but with our special end
housing. This has enough torque for large or high compression 4, V6 and most V8
engines.
PORSCHE 911 (P.N. 916-604-101) Self supported shaft eliminates the need for the
VW bushing. Weighs 15 lbs. Good for
V6 or V8 engines but has a week support for gear.
GEAR REDUCTION - High Torque for high compression engines. Works on all VW bug
based transaxles and Porsche 914 and 911 transaxles. Includes models for '76+
bus. Reverse rotation also available for Honda engines. Higher RPM with
stronger torque also available for Mazda rotary. All models available in
chrome. 10 lbs. Also available for
syncro vans.
The '76 and
newer bus with their deeper bellhousing require a longer starter gear to reach
past a larger clutch. By machining the starter pocket on the transaxle a self
contained VW bug starter can be used. This is necessary on the 4 wheel drive
Syncro with differential lockout. If a 200mm clutch is used, the bellhousing could
be replaced with a '68 to '75 one so any VW bug starter will fit.
